Upcoming Needs

Saturday, July 26 Project

July 22, 2008 - 1:56 PM

Grace Community invites you to join us in a project this Saturday.  A co-worker of one of our members lived at 709 Edgewater in Coralville with her husband.  They just went back to the home last week and have not been able to do much of anything.  The home had several feet of water, but they were able to get many of the contents to the second floor loft.  We will be meeting at that residence at 8AM and will be removing contents (some to storage and some to the curb for disposal) and then doing the muck work…walls and ceiling must come out.  There will be lots of de-construction, removing debris, and cleaning.  Please consider coming out for whatever time you can serve.

We will need pry bars, hammers, buckets, scoop shovels & wheel barrels.  Make sure you have gloves & clothes you are comfortable getting dirty.  We will have masks and extra tools on site.    E-mail me back right away if you want to be a part so that I can gauge if we need to plan for a noon meal (tomw@gracecommunitynet.org).  It will be great working together showing these folks the "hands and feet of Jesus".

Sandbag Removal

July 17, 2008 - 8:40 AM

On Friday and Saturday (July 18 & 19), Iowa City will be doing sandbag removal in the Normandy area from 8AM - 3 PM.  Water, refreshments and lunch will be provided.  The removal will consist of carrying/passing sandbags from the river to the street where city crews will load and remove the bags.  You can call the United Way volunteer center (337-8657) or just show up at the corner of Normandy & Manor to be assigned.

United Way Projects

July 17, 2008 - 8:25 AM

City officials from both Iowa City and Coralville are advising all requests for help to be channeled through the United Way volunteer center.  In talking with Patti Fields from United Way, they have many requests still coming in and welcome our help.  As a church group, call the volunteer line at 337-8657.  You can generally see what is available and volunteer to take a project on, or you can let them know of a specific time your group is available and they will attempt to find a project for you.  You do not need to register every individual, they just want to know which church you are with and how many people you have for the project.  This is a great way to come along side people we normally do not regullary interact with and be Jesus to them...even using words if we have to.
